The Health Helper project is the future in the development of AI

AI startups are an area that has been growing over the past few years. AI startups in healthcare are particularly of great interest.

In 2016, the Biomed Challenge was held for medical and biotech projects. Projects with ready-made solutions in the following areas were invited to participate in the contest: neurology, oncology, aesthetic medicine, rare diseases, diagnostics and observation, patient education, solutions related to business support. Participants could present mobile apps, services, digital platforms, gadgets or equipment.

The purpose of the contest was to find promising startup projects that can receive funding from the Lifeasapa in the amount of $ 180 000.

Among thousands of applications, the organizers chose the Health Helper project.

Project goal was to reduce the number of stroke victims who do not receive medical care on time. The software compares CT scans of the patient’s brain with archived data and informs the specialist of the danger as soon as it notices the slightest signs of vascular occlusion or hemorrhage, which might otherwise be missed or noticed too late.

Benefits of the Health Helper project.

What can health care do for stroke patients? The best option would be to prevent stroke, or at least shorten the time to diagnosis and thus minimize brain damage. If a stroke is diagnosed immediately, the patient can fully regain mobility.

The software automatically sends and notifies the doctor with links to images for a final assessment of the person to speed up diagnosis and treatment. The specialist’s attention will be shifted to the more acute cases, and the radiologist can proceed to review the less urgent images.

This healthcare AI startup using the latest technologies can help doctors to diagnose and determine when patients are getting worse. Thus, medical intervention can occur before the patient needs hospitalization. This means that the average life expectancy of people will increase. Some diseases and conditions that were once fatal will no longer be so.

We are in the midst of an AI revolution. With the rapid development of deep learning and computer-aided learning algorithms in recent years, the use of AI in diagnosis, risk stratification, and therapeutic decision making is becoming more common. Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and sickness rate worldwide and represents a major public health problem. Artificial intelligence provides exciting opportunities to improve stroke care.

How will AI change healthcare?

Human and AI cooperation can be a valuable partner for physicians in many areas of healthcare. For example, an AI-based system can alert doctors to drug interactions and side effects. Artificial intelligence systems can also help neurologists to identify patients with macro vessels occlusion and determine in real time which patients should be selected for revascularization. If artificial intelligence is integrated into the physician’s workflow, it can improve healthcare service, analyze large amounts of clinical data, imaging data, proteomics, and genomics, and thus enable physicians to define therapies for each patient. In the future, collaboration between physicians and artificial intelligence technologies will be key to improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare services and the beginning of a new era of precision medicine. AI can help to predict disease and make decisions, providing efficiency and accuracy comparable to experts.

Moving forward, the research and application of artificial intelligence for stroke cases must keep pace with the growing clinical demand. More thorough research is needed to assess the clinical applicability of artificial intelligence systems and study their impact on the quality of medical services and patient treatment outcomes. Well-designed medical AI startups can certainly be seen as the wave of the future.
