There was a race of drones driven by man and artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence has lost the drone race. The drone under the control of a person turned out to be twice as fast.
Previously, only human-controlled drones participated in such races. This year, the competition included a stage with an AI competition.
As a result of the races, the AI-controlled drone of the MAVLab team covered the track with obstacles in 12 seconds. This result turned out to be two times slower than that of the apparatus, at the “helm” of which was Gabriel Kocher (6 seconds).
However, the AI team did receive a “promotion” prize of $ 1 million for the fastest drone of this race season.
“Just ten years ago, for a drone, you would have needed a processor that was the size of a dinner plate and consumed so much power that it could get hot and fried eggs,” said senior scientist in avionics and aviation systems University of the West of England, Dr. Steve Wright.
He added that the processor is now the size of a playing card and is no longer as hot.
