Explosion of new inventions using AI

In 2015, artificial intelligence became the mainstream. Major technology companies, including Google, Facebook, Amazon and Twitter, have invested heavily in AI, almost all of Gartner’s strategic forecasts for technology research included AI, and headlines wrote that AI-based technologies would be the next big breakthrough for corporate software.
In addition, companies that have made great strides in AI, including Facebook, Microsoft and Google, have discovered the source code of their tools. This makes it likely that new inventions from companies that are discovering new ways of applying AI rather than creating it will appear on the market in 2016. Smart machines will improve performance and help employees work more productively.
Business applications based on artificial intelligence will begin to penetrate companies other than technology. As each individual application eliminates the task, employees will automate many of the routine parts of their work and build their own AI-based applications.
As the pace of innovation accelerates, large organisations in industries such as retail, insurance and government will devote even more effort to remaining competitive and opening up important new areas by creating innovative laboratories. Innovation labs have been around for some time now, but in 2016 we will start to see more resources dedicated to innovation labs and new technologies discovered in the labs, actually implemented in various company functions and business areas.
The year 2016 will be a big year for AI. Most of the AI work in 2016 will be a catalyst for rapid acceleration of AI-based application development and implementation. Besides, perhaps even more importantly, the year 2016 will bring a serious shift in perception of AI. It will no longer be a frightening abstract set of ideas and concepts and will be better understood and accepted as more and more people realize the potential of AI to improve what we do and make our lives more productive.
